anna and julie use the computer

bug bites

who remembers chimp mints? i know grace does. well my mom has taken to mailing me some sort of sweet thing every week since she thinks i'm having a nervous breakdown, and this week she sent me bug bites so here is a fun fact for everyone: the stink bug nymph. stink bugs can be recognized by their characteristic oval body shape and each antennae being comprised of five segments. this immature larval stage is considerably more colorful than the adult form which was almost entirely black. true bugs undergo a common form of incomplete metamorphosis with three life stages. the eggs hatches (their grammar mistake not mine!) into nymphs which grows ever closer to the adult form through a series of body molts.

gross. and way less fun than the stories about chimps that came with chimp mints. but that chocolate was really gross and this chocolate was really good.

global edition

what does everyone think about the nytimes.com having a global edition and a us edition? because i will personally say that it is just stressing me out because i can't decide which i should use.

at the booth tobins....

so yesterday i hung out with julie at the booth tobins where she is house sitting (hi jane!!!!) and we did lots of jane stuff. we did the crossword at the kitchen table, tried to walk ruby even though she wasn't having it, ran an errand to the home store to see anna, and also looked up twilight stuff on the internet. we discovered this. it's amazing. today i got back to new york and was feeling really bummed about school and missing minneapolis already and julie told me i would feel better if i posted this. and i do!

breaking news

i love when the star tribune breaks big news stories like this

I think I got a job!

It will not be very exciting, but it is part time and I get to work from home! So that is pretty great. I have not actually met the person I am working for, a Chinese businessman, and at first I thought it was a fake job. But now he has sent funds to buy a work laptop. Hopefully that means it is real and there is promise of a paycheck in a few weeks.

daffodils

look these are the daffodils that my mom bought me and the sun shining outside my window.

winter storm warning

It is raining/snowing/sleeting out and I am in my living room looking at the internet. I am also having a hot water bottle.

I found this , a sort of online This American Life-ish video project. It is mesmerizing, I feel like I could watch it all day.

Which reminds me, I really want to try to make a radio story--something that you would hear on This American Life. But I don't have any subject ideas. Any suggestions?

midterms!

today is the first of my last.

Dear MK&A . . .

Rachel sent me an email the other day, a letter we wrote to the famous twins a few years ago . . .

  1. MK (is that ok if we call you MK?) we were wondering what you first cut from your diet? What you cut second, third etc? Did you consult anyone or did you decide on your own? Are coffee and sushi really your top two favorites?
  2. Tell us. Just how do we get in touch with your hairdresser?
  3. Who’d you guys vote for in the 2004 presidential election?
  4. We know this is a little personal, but if you had to have a threesome, you two and one other person, who would you choose to be the third?
  5. This one is really more of a comment than a question, but we heard that you guys are ‘splitting up’ and we just want to say that we think it’s a really good decision. You guys just need a little time apart right now, you need to think things over. We know that in the end you will both realize how much you really love each other, then you can go to Canada and get married.
  6. Boxers or briefs? Commando?
  7. Let’s be real here for a minute, the plot of Getting There isn’t exactly stellar. Did you two have a hand in writing it? A heavy hand, perhaps? You really should invest in a creative writing class at Gallatin. I hear Anne Lennox is a great teacher.
  8. Want to hang out? Please. Pretty please. Say yes! Do it! Say yes!

thesis time

hi guys. if you ever want to imagine what i am doing or where i am during the day, there is a 95% chance that this is the situation:

this is me in my favorite spot in my favorite library. i am surrounded by books and there is a big window to my right. this library has really high ceilings with 3 floors of bookshelves, and you climb stairs to little terraces and balconies and walkways to get to the high ones.

what is everyone else doing today?
